Tacoma's oldest neighborhood, on the bluff above the bay
Old Town is where Tacoma started. Parks Tacoma says Job Carr, a Civil War veteran, built his log cabin here in 1865, and by 1869 it was the first post office. The Tacoma Business Districts site places Old Town at the bottom of 30th hill and along Ruston Way, and calls it the birthplace of Tacoma. The National Register record for Slavonian Hall on N 30th Street describes the neighborhood sitting on a bluff that rises high above Commencement Bay.
The City's Tacoma Register of Historic Places lists homes here from the 1880s, including the Beals House Duplex on McCarver Street (1888) and the Steele-Fuller House on N 29th Street (about 1884). Roofs on older houses, on a slope, open to weather off the water, need careful flashing and a plan for access. Trustworthy Roofing, a licensed and insured family crew working out of 5506 112th Avenue East in Puyallup, writes each Old Town scope after looking at the roof itself. We are a CertainTeed ShingleMaster contractor, and estimates are free.
Why Old Town homeowners call Trustworthy Roofing
Older homes, inspected first
Some Old Town houses date to the 1880s. We check the deck, flashing, chimney, and roof edge before writing a scope, and the proposal lists what we found.
Hillside access planned up front
Old Town sits on a bluff above the bay. Steep streets and tight lots decide where a trailer and materials can sit, so we work that out with you before the first day.
Straight answers on historic listings
Old Town is not one of the City's four local review districts, but several buildings here are on the Tacoma Register. If yours is listed, we point you to the Historic Preservation Officer instead of guessing.
Licensed, insured, 100% local
A family business with 10+ years of experience, a CertainTeed ShingleMaster contractor, and a shop in Puyallup. Estimates are free and written by the people who will be on your roof.
