Historic homes on the slope between Old Town and downtown
The City of Tacoma calls the North Slope Historic Special Review District, with more than 950 properties, one of the largest historic districts in the country. It runs from North I Street to North Grant Avenue, and between Division Avenue and Steele Street, along the angle where the street grid follows the shoreline and links Old Town with New Tacoma.
The City says few homes here are high style. Most are middle class Victorian, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, and Foursquare houses built before World War II. The district has been on the Tacoma Register since 1994 and on the state and National Registers since 2003.
That listing matters for a roof. North Slope is a local review district, so some exterior work goes to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Trustworthy Roofing, a licensed and insured family crew working out of 5506 112th Avenue East in Puyallup, checks what applies before we write a scope. We are a CertainTeed ShingleMaster contractor, and estimates are free.
Why North Slope homeowners call Trustworthy Roofing
We start with the district rules
The City's design guidelines for North Slope cover roof form, height, and materials. We read them with you before the estimate, so the scope fits the district.
Same roof shape, done right
The guidelines ask owners to keep the existing roof form and ridge height. A reroof here is about replacing what is there with care, not reshaping it.
Older homes, inspected first
Pre war houses can hide old decking, worn flashing, and tired chimneys. We look at all of it first, and the proposal lists what we found.
